The AASE team – here to help you!
With over 35 years’ experience in advising and assisting small businesses in the media sector, over 20 years of these with Andie as Director/Shareholder of Accounts Action (SE), Vaughan has probably forgotten more than he remembers remembering! He realises that Accountancy and taxation matters are intrinsically boring but vital, and that neglect of these can seriously damage one’s wealth! People however are far more interesting and by taking an interest in our clients on a personal as well as a business perspective, he hopes to assist clients deal with the innumerable obligations imposed on them by an ever-increasing bureaucracy in as friendly a way as possible and, by doing so, assist them in achieving personal, business and financial goals. His personal interests include history, classical and sixties music, theatre, photography, rugby and cricket, steam railways and vintage sports cars and in particular and above all, family especially when they let him loose to do any of the afore-mentioned. Please note that for any contact with Vaughan before morning coffee, a rant concerning the weather, or any politician of more than usual ineptitude, or broadcaster mangling our beautiful language, will be compulsory.
Having originally trained as an architect and drama teacher, and proving herself a wiz at selling jewellery and fine art, Andie unexpectedly found her forte in the exciting world of accounts and has been working with Vaughan for over twenty five years. Since co-founding Accounts Action in 1996, she thinks she deserves a silver award for perseverance, having become an expert in the translation of some of Vaughan's more exuberant diatribes on the vagaries of the tax system and modern life in general. Originally specialising in all things VAT she is now taking things a little easier, if grandchildren can ever be considered relaxing, and is mainly responsible for the admin of the company. A keen supporter of live theatre and classical music, when not crunching numbers Andie can be found sipping spritzers at folk music gigs and keeping up the fine English tradition of Morris dancing.
Kirsty joined Accounts Action at the beginning of the year 2000 and remarkably is still here all these years later, making her a bit of a veteran in employee terms. Kirsty is instantly recognisable on the phone by her Scottish accent. She enjoys meeting clients and strives to provide a friendly and approachable service. Kirsty qualified with the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (MCIPPdip) in 2005 so much of her time is now committed to running the client payroll bureau and she has lengthy experience in advising clients on payroll and various PAYE aspects such as tax, national insurance, statutory sick pay, statutory maternity pay and Auto Enrolment. When she is not trying to make sense of the ever changing payroll legislation, her time is split between preparing Sole Trader Accounts and Tax Returns and generally advising and assisting clients with any queries they have. Kirsty’s first love is dance, and being a qualified dance teacher, she runs her own Swing Dance classes in the evening.
Ben is the latest addition to the Accounts Action team and takes care of the admin side of things. So if you have ever phoned us up or received anything from us in the post, chances are you have met him already. He also deals with very important matters such as organising the Christmas party and fun days out in Kentish vineyards. Ben recently completed his first personal tax return season and only suffered minor psychological damage. When not trying to organise accountants Ben can usually be found with his nose in a book or chasing his daughter round the park.
Clare is a relative newcomer to Accounts Action joining the team just before Christmas 2015. She principally prepares Limited Company Accounts and Corporation Tax Returns. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant in the late 1980s with Ernst & Young in London and went on to pursue a career as a Corporate Financial Accountant at Reuters before taking a very long career break to bring up her children. During this time she used her financial training whilst volunteering as a school governor and PTA treasurer and set up and ran her own small holiday letting business. She is pleased to be back in the workplace and is hugely enjoying being part of the Accounts Action team. She particularly likes the media / creative arts dimension of our client base as it chimes with her own interests in music and the performing arts. She is a geography graduate with a lifelong love of the natural environment, a keen walker and obsessive gardener and allotmenteer.
Dawn joined Accounts Action in 2008 and completed her accountancy qualifications the following year. Over the years Dawn has worked with Sole Traders preparing Self-Assessment Accounts and Tax Returns. She has also worked on the preparation of VAT returns. Her main role is now with Limited Companies preparing year end accounts and Corporation Tax Returns. As a fully qualified Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (MAAT) if you need an Accounting Certificate for a Mortgage Application, she is able to sign this off for you. After raising 3 children, Dawn looks forward to escaping to Australia to visit her family and she also enjoys living and walking in the Ashdown Forest.
Chartered Accountant, NZ
Francisca is a New Zealand trained Chartered Accountant with 10 years UK and post qualified experience working with small to medium sized businesses. She joined Accounts Action in Spring 2014. She has a background in both business advisory work and audit but enjoys systems work the most, which is why she is the Xero expert. She is studying for membership of the Institute of Taxation which she hopes to complete in 2017. In 2016 Francisca went on maternity leave to play mummy to her young daughter and baby son who pretty much take away all her spare time although in a former life, as with most antipodeans, she loved to travel and see the world.
James Joined Accounts Action as an apprentice in early September 2016, he left school to come and join the team at an amazingly young age of only 17. He is by far the youngest and funniest member of the team although not yet a chartered accountant like the rest. The youngest member enjoys eating. Anything. A lot.
Liz joined Accounts Action back in 2009 as our office junior. She is now a qualified bookkeeper with the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB) and is now progressing to the next level of study and aims to gain a diploma in Self-Assessment Taxation. She takes care of our Sole Traders, preparing their accounts and the Self-Assessment Tax Returns for Individuals and Partnerships as well as assisting Kirsty with payroll. Liz has built up a good relationship with our clients over the years and is a keen problem solver. If you have ever phoned the office for help or advice, chances are you have spoken to her at some time. When not knee-deep in Tax Returns, Liz’s interests are travel, rock music, Prosecco and Tottenham Hotspur FC.
Marlon Joined Accounts Action in July 2015 and he is AAT Qualified (Association of Accounting Technicians). Marlon is our VAT specialist so is the one who sifts through all those invoices and VAT receipts, querying what they are for or chasing you up when they are missing. Marlon gained much of his VAT experience with the British Council where he previously worked and also with charities, he has also worked at the Kennel Club and Diocese of Westminster. In his younger years Marlon was a GB senior and junior international high jumper. He now spends his spare time coaching his son, an up and coming sprinter and footballer.
Shelagh prepares Company Accounts and Corporation Tax Returns as well as turning her hand to Self-Assessment Accounts and Tax Returns as well as VAT returns when help is needed in these areas. She is a qualified Chartered Accountant but as a bolshie twenty-something year old paying an exorbitant annual membership fee seemed outrageous, so her membership of the ICAEW lapsed and she cannot sign Mortgage Applications etc. Shelagh also monitors Company filing deadlines so if you are late with submitting your paperwork or approving your accounts she will probably be chasing you. After a varied working life including city analyst and theatre box office manager, Shelagh joined Accounts Action in 2011 so has survived quite a few January filing deadlines, although she would prefer to spend January in Southern India as it one of the best times to be there! When not preparing accounts or travelling she enjoys music, be it jazz, classical or world, gardening, walking and visiting art galleries and museums.
